A suspended fireplace in New Zealand costs from $4,595 for a Cocoon Aeris hanging bioethanol fire, and from around $6,645 for a wood-burning Naked Flame Sphere, up to just under $16,500 for a gas Curve 120, before installation. The two things that move the price most are the fuel you choose and the size of the fire. This guide sets out the current prices for every model we sell so you can budget properly before you talk to a builder or architect.

Other hanging fireplaces we carry

  • Cocoon Aeris hanging bioethanol fire: from $4,595 to $6,500 depending on finish and pole.

  • Planika Pillar suspended bioethanol fire: $21,330.

Why the fuel changes the price so much

Wood is the lowest purchase price because the firebox is the simplest. It needs a full flue through the roof and, in New Zealand, building consent. Many urban areas also restrict new wood burners, so check with your council early.

Electric uses a flame-effect insert. It is close to the wood price, needs only a power supply, and suits apartments and rooms where a flame is not practical.

Bioethanol adds a stainless burner and tank. It burns a real flame with no gas line, and is the most popular choice where a flue to the roof is difficult.

Gas is the highest purchase price because of the burner, controls and gas fitting. It must be installed by a licensed gasfitter to AS/NZS 5601.1.

What sits on top of the fire price

  • Installation. Every suspended fire hangs from the ceiling structure, so a builder needs to confirm the framing and fix the bracket. Gas adds a gasfitter; wood adds a flue installer and consent.
  • Flue. Naked Flame flues are 219 mm and cut to your ceiling height.
  • Freight. Quoted per project, based on where you are in New Zealand.
  • Fuel. For bioethanol, see our guide to bioethanol fireplace running costs.

How to compare quotes

When you compare a suspended fireplace against a built-in fire, compare the full job: fire, flue, structure, trades and consent. A built-in fire often needs a cavity, a hearth and finishing work that a suspended fire does not. A suspended fire needs a ceiling that can carry it.
